Marx's doctrines are encountered today as they have often been encountered throughout history by the doctrines of revolutionary thinkers and leaders of the oppressed classes in their liberation struggles. The bourgeoisie and the opportunists of the workers' movement are now united in this processing of Marxism. They forget, erase and distort the revolutionary aspect, the revolutionary soul of this doctrine. They celebrate in the first place what the bourgeoisie accepts or finds acceptable to the bourgeoisie.
The advanced people, the Communists, the democratic parties, the enlightened workers, the young students, the progressive intellectuals, have the duty to unite the middle class, the centrists, the backward elements of the various strata in People's China, all those who are still wavering and hesitant (who will continue to waver for a long time, to be firm and waver again, and to waver at the first sign of difficulty), to help them with goodwill, to criticize their wavering, to educate them, to try to win them over to the side of the masses and to prevent imperialism from pulling them over, to tell them to lose their illusions and to prepare for the struggle. The United States does have science and technology, but it is a pity that they are in the hands of the capitalists, not in the hands of the people, and that their use is for internal exploitation and oppression and for external aggression and murder. Who are our enemies? Who are our friends? This question is the primary question of revolution. The basic reason why all China's revolutionary struggles in the past have yielded so little success is that it has failed to unite its true friends to attack its true enemies. The revolutionary party is the guide of the masses. There has never been a revolution in which the revolutionary party led the wrong way and the revolution did not fail. If our revolution is to have the certainty of not leading the wrong way and of success, we must not fail to pay attention to uniting our real friends to attack our real enemies.
Most of the world loves the vigour and glorious ideals of the beginning of the revolution, but it is difficult to face and understand the difficulties and hardships in the middle of the revolution, but only through such a long period of time can the tried and tested warriors see the sun rising as usual at the end.
Let those internal and external reactionaries tremble before us, let them say that we are neither good nor bad, and the indomitable endeavours of the Chinese people will steadily achieve their goals.
